How to Harness Positive Thinking (and Why It Matters for Your Business)

By Donna Martin

You’ve heard that attitude is everything, but is it actually true? Can you really solve all your business problems with a plucky good spirit? Maybe not, but your outlook can influence outcomes, both in your personal life and your business.

For some of us, positive thinking comes naturally; others have to work at it. Even if you’re a cynic by nature, you can harness the power of positive thinking and reap its benefits.

Keep reading to learn how…

Release Negative Energy

First off, out with the old. When you allow yourself to dwell on negative thoughts, then you allow skepticism to rule your life and ultimately guide your decision making. It is difficult to build the positive without releasing the negative.

Easier said than done.

To begin, focus on guiding your thoughts to the affirmatives in every situation. For example, instead of thinking of something as a roadblock, consider the opportunities it could provide. When negative thoughts invade, take a few deep breaths, focus on the movement of air coming in your nose and out your mouth, and push the self-defeating thoughts away.

Now you’re ready to retrain your brain for the positive!

Retrain Your Brain

It’s never too late to retrain your brain, even when you have been focusing on the negative self-consciously for much of your life. Retraining your brain can be as simple as seeing the so-called silver lining in each situation, which first occurs by organizing the flow of your thoughts. For many of us, thoughts flow as naturally as water. We rarely take the time to consider what they mean for our outlook.

Try to create positive patterns in your thought process. Instead of scrutinizing a situation and seeing all the negatives, look for the positives. Each morning when you wake up, make note of three positive things about your routine. This simple exercise will help you see the positives everywhere.

Apply the Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is simple: you will draw in what you send out. The emotions, thoughts, and reactions you convey will ultimately guide your outcomes. If you want to apply the law of attraction – whether to your business or your personal life – start by allowing yourself to connect to your goals and aspirations.

A business coach can help you identify your intended goals and develop the commitment you need to reach them. Understanding that your goals are ultimately influenced by the law of attraction is the first step to achieving them. By releasing negative energy and retraining your brain, you can harness the power of positive thinking.
